Hatha Yoga
Also called Hatha Vidyas & introduced by Yogi Swatmarama, as preparatory stage of physical purification that the body practices for higher meditation. As a philosophy and practice Hatha is aimed at the enlightenment of the body by awakening the kundalini energy. Hatha is a descendent of Tantra. The primary objective is to intercept the left and right currents in the body and draw a bipolar energy into a central channel which awakens the kundalini energy and moves it up and through all the chakra creating self realisation and enlightenment. Hatha yoga also gives us the physical strength we need in our bodies to embrace this enlightenment.
Hatha works with subtle 'invisible' energies and to some from the outside looks like 'the easy one' whist in fact it is a very deep practice using the bodies life force (prana) for the transcendence of the self. Hatha is a compound of the words ha and tha meaning sun and moon, referring to prana and apana, and also to the principal nadis (energy channels) of the subtle body that must be fully operational to attain a state of dhyana or samadhi.
