Visiting Masters

Retreat Programmes (weeks and weekends) are led by COMO Shambhala's Visiting Masters, including international teachers in Yoga, meditation and Pilates. Sometimes our Visiting Masters work as pairs, to complement the other's expertise.
  • Sharon Gannon and David Life: Sharon and David created Jivamukti Yoga, one of the fastest growing and most popular modern approaches, born in New York City. They combine a rare blend of scholarly thought with disciplined asana and meditation practice, mixing music, poetry, commentary and choreography with meditation.
  • Eileen Hall: Eileen has been a student of yoga since 1982. During this time she has spent many years in India studying with both Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, master of the Ashtanga method, and BKS Iyengar. Eileen teaches from a practical level, emphasising the importance of daily, consistent and sincere practice.
  • Cyndi Lee: Cyndi Lee, founder of OM Yoga in New York, has been teaching since 1978. A long time practitioner of both Hatha Yoga and Tibetan Buddhism, she has been studying with Gehlek Rimpoche since 1990. Known as a playful teacher with a nurturing style, her OM approach blends flowing sequences with precise alignment.
  • Judy Krupp: Judy is a Sydney-based teacher who originally trained in the Iyengar tradition. She has 27 years of experience. Her multifaceted approach focuses on an individual’s ability to move beyond perceived limitations with better breath while helping to improve core stability. Krupp’s style is infused with confidence and humour.
  • Don Peers: Peers, who trained in Australia with Simon Borg-Oliver, has also worked in India with Sri Desikachar, and with Tim Miller in California. His sessions explore the Iyengar concept to build a stronger asana. Greater focus is added via the Ashtanga Vinyasa method of coordinating breath, the three locks (Bandha) and gaze (Drushti).
  • Shiva Rea: Shiva teaches flow, or Vinyasa-based Yoga, which integrates correct alignment with intuition, and strength with fluidity. She respects the core techniques of the Krishnamacharya lineage (asana, pranayama, meditation) while incorporating other influences such as dance and bodywork.
  • Shandor Remete: Shandor, based in Australia, brings his combined knowledge of Yoga, martial arts, Chi Kung and the Ayurvedic and Siddha systems of medicine to bear in his unique teaching. He presents a rare opportunity to learn the common principles shared by all these disciplines.
  • Erich Schiffmann: Erich first trained in the Krishnamacharya-Desikachar tradition, latterly with Iyengar in India. Now based out of Los Angeles, his teaching reflects his enormous passion for Yoga and his belief in its power to inform all our lives with an invaluable sense of stillness.
  • David Swenson: Swenson's introduction to Ashtanga came in 1973 when he met David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff in Encinitas, California. In 1977, Swenson met Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and learned the full Ashtanga system. In the last five years, he has produced five videos and written the bestseller, Ashtanga Yoga: The Practice Manual.
  • Rodney Yee: Rodney is based in the US, currently in Sag Habor, New York, where he works closely with his wife, Yoga teacher Colleen Saidman. He is the author of Yoga, The Poetry of the Body and numerous DVDs. His style is developed from Iyengar’s teaching, intelligently informed by his own practice. He complements this with a profound but easily accessible philosophical mindset.
  • Chris Walker: Chris, an Australian, has spent the past 20 years of his life decoding the laws of nature. He is the author of the internationally acclaimed book, Innerwealth – Putting the Heart and Soul Back Into Work and Life. His new book is entitled Sacred Love. He has developed mastery in Yoga, meditation and various healing arts.
  • Colleen Saidman: Colleen is based in the US. She is a graduate of Jivamukti’s Teacher Training programme, and co-founder of the hip Yoga Shanti studio in Sag Harbour, New York. Her rising profile includes co-writing the Masters Class column for Yoga Journal in 2009. She has studied with David Life, Sharon Gannon, Richard Rosen and Richard Freeman and is married to Rodney Yee.
